Empty Bowls
Magic City Harvest started the Empty Bowl Project in the Birmingham area in 2004. Through this event over 800 students and local artists volunteer their time and talent each year to hand make or decorate bowls which serve as a reminder that there are those among us who are hungry or food insecure. St. Vincent's Hospital has been a very generous host for this event each year. Contact us for more information on how you can become involved.

The 9th Annual Magic City Harvest
Empty Bowls Soup and Bread Lunch
is set for Friday, March 30, 2012 from 11-1:30 pm at
St. Vincent’s Bruno Conference Center.
For $15.00, attendees gather to enjoy a delicious bowl of soup, sample different styles of bread from area bakeries, and select one of 1000 donated bowls to take home as a "Thank You" for supporting MCH in its work to alleviate hunger and food waste. The food safe, bisque bowls have been hand-painted and glazed by local potters, artists, students, churches, and ceramics groups. Proceeds from the event benefit Magic City Harvest, the food recovery program of greater Birmingham.
1,000 bowls are available to give to lunch attendees- thanking them for supporting our food distribution efforts AND reminding them of how many "empty bowls" there are across the greater Birmingham community. If you are a student or member of an organization that would like to support the empty bowls project by making some of the hand painted bowls, please contact us at 591-3663.
